City of Cape Town awards contract to leading physical asset management company Pragma

The City of Cape Town (CoCT) has awarded a contract to leading physical asset management company, Pragma, after their successful tender. The contract is for a period of three years, valid from July 2015 to June 2018.

Says Frik Kirsten, Asset Care Centre Manager (Pragma) – City of Cape Town: “We’re absolutely thrilled with the renewal of the City of Cape Town contract. Over the past eight years, we’ve assisted Electrical Support Services (ESS) to obtain accurate asset data, standardise work planning and control procedures, improve decision-making based on accurate data, achieve an increase in operational output as well as a decrease in cost per job.”

Electrical Support Services is a division of the Electricity Department’s Technical Support Services, which is based in Ndabeni. Continues Kirsten: “The unit provides services in civil and facilities management, capital projects, electrical installations, maintenance and repairs, transformer and switchgear refurbishment, as well as corrosion prevention management. We also work with the Fleet Maintenance and Management Services (FMMS) and General Engineering and Plant Services (GEPS) departments, ensuring that all assets function at their optimum. All these departments have experienced huge growth in asset management maturity. The amount and efficiency of work completed by the client has shown a dramatic increase over the period.”

“An annual maturity assessment and project plan is done at each client. The Asset Management Policy is updated and the strategy for the year is developed, presented to management and then communicated to the rest of the staff. We manage the steering and technical committees to ensure the project plans are followed and updated.”

Electricity Support Services have won numerous awards since 2009, including walking away as winners in Productivity SA’s regional and national awards, It has also won the Pragma ACC@Client Gold Award in 2010 and 2011, the 2011 ACC@Client Industry winner award, as well as the 2011 Pragma CEO award. They have also won the SABS President’s award, and 2012 Pragma Asset Management Gold award. ESS was also the first ISO 55000 certified entity in SA and FMMS were awarded the Pragma Asset Management Green award in 2012.

According to Kirsten, they always have to be aware of new innovations and improvements in the industry. He concludes: “There’s always room for improvement. We strive to identify and recruit bright talent that will play a leading role within their work teams with the client. We work hard to keep teams engaged, energised and trained. I’m very proud of the CoCT Pragma team and the role they play.”
