Makeover by Pragma to make a huge difference

Pragma will be assisting the Durban Children’sHome (DCH), specifically the children living in Saunders House, by adding some colour and uplifting rooms as well as their spiritson Monday, 3 December 2012.

Pragma has come on board with Adopt a Room Project, where they will be renovating the dining and study areas of Saunders House at the Home.

Avashini Maistry, Asset Care Co-ordinator for Kwa-Zulu Natal at Pragma Holdings, says: “We hope this will uplift their little or should I say, huge spirits. We’ll be replacing the carpets in the foyer, as well as renovate the study and dining areas. There are currently 20 girls and boys between the ages of 4 to 11 years staying in Saunders House.”

The Durban Children’s Home is a Non-Government Organisation. It was established in 1905 by a group of concerned men and women who saw the need to provide substitute care to orphans, destitute children and children with parents who were unable to care for them. It recognises the importance of early intervention, preventative work with children, youth and families, as well as family reunification. Programmes with this focus ensure that families do not have to spend long periods in the welfare system, or in some cases do not have to enter the system at all. In order to meet this objective the Home has developed new, innovative programmes, which provide relevant services to the communities that they serve.

The children who access these programmes come from all over Kwa-Zulu Natal. High levels of unemployment, poverty, crime, domestic violence, substance abuse, sexual abuse and HIV/AIDS are experienced in the province which results in many children seeking access to the empowering programmes the organisation offers.

“Hopefully what we have to offer, will make a huge difference to these beautiful children, letting them know that they have a purpose on this earth,” concludes Maistry.
