SAAMA to host second annual asset management conference

The Southern African Asset Management Association (SAAMA) will host its second physical asset management conference from 12 to 14 May 2015 at the CTICC in Cape Town. The conference theme is centred on Life Cycle Costing (LCC) pertaining to design, implementation, operation and maintenance, as well as the replacement phases in an asset’s life.

The conference is co-located with the African Utility Week (AUW) and Clean Power Africa conference and exhibition. SAAMA conference attendees will enjoy free entrance into the exhibition area and also have the opportunity to network with delegates from the AUW conference during networking sessions. The Global Forum on Maintenance and Asset Management (GFMAM) chose the SAAMA conference as their 2015 annual meeting destination which will give the conference delegates the opportunity to rub shoulders with this team of experienced asset management practitioners.

Says Anton Booyzen, President of SAAMA: “We are delighted to host the GFMAM annual meeting as part of the SAAMA conference. Not only will our delegates have the opportunity to attend conference sessions presented by experts like John Hardwick and David McKeown, but they will also have the opportunity to network with the team. Our programme boasts with more than 12 international speakers who can confidently contribute to the topic of Life Cycle Costing.”

Life Cycle Costing is a tool or model that enables comparative cost assessments to be made over a specified period of time, taking into account all relevant economic factors both in terms of initial capital costs, future operational and maintenance costs, as well as replacement costs. A small error in planning, for example one or two percent, can have a ten to twenty percent effect on the whole-of-life cost.

Delegates attending the conference sessions will gain the tools to develop costing models in support of asset life cycle management, a holistic view of all costs involved with assets over their full life span and strategic knowledge on how to better plan for and manage ageing assets and reduce associated risks. A wide range of case studies will be presented, demonstrating the practical application of best practices .With the range of topics available, it is advisable for companies to send several delegates to fully utilise the content to their disposal.

Booyzen continues: “Visit the SAAMA conference website to get hold of the programme and start planning your 2015 SAAMA conference experience.”

Speakers include John Hardwick, President of GFMAM, David McKeown, CEO of the IAM, Erik Helms Nielsen, CEO of Reliasset, Geert Fuchs and Ruben Busink, Royal HaskoningDHV, Dr Hal Belmonte of Aurecon, David Bidwell of Qualitrol Corporation/TAS and Paul Taylor of Powertech System Integrators. Our guest speaker is Clem Sunter.

Concludes Booyzen: “Carefully selected conference topics and speakers will offer attendees practical and affordable solutions and best practices that will ensure that assets are maintained to deliver products and services into the future.”
